10 die in Lagos accident

10 persons have been confirmed dead in a road accident in the Abule Osun area of Lagos State.

Confirming the accident in a statement on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the incident occurred on Tuesday night at Abule Osun inward Iyana-Iba in Lagos.

LASEMA, in a statement issued by its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said: “In response to some distress calls received through the 767 and 112 toll-free lines, LASEMA activated its Dolphin Response Team from Igando Base.

“On arrival at the scene, it was discovered that a bus, registration number BDG 342 FS, with passengers coming from the eastern part of the country, rammed into a parked truck.

“Further investigations revealed that the truck, registration unknown, which was laden with granite, was parked on the road shutting down about half of the carriageway.

“The bus which was on top speed rammed into the parked truck from behind, killing 10 people instantly including a child.”

Oke-Osanyintolu added that three people were injured in the accident, saying they had been rushed to the hospital.

The LASEMA boss stated: “The injured passengers who were rescued were taken to a nearby hospital by the officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, before the arrival of the agency.

“The 10 commodities have been bagged and handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit.

“Recovery operation is still in progress while relevant authorities and responders are on the ground.”
