Two people working at mining site in Bichi Local Government Area of Kano State have lost their lives when the pit they were working in collapsed.
The police confirmed that the victims were among the illegal miners that are operating in the area.
According to the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiyawa, the deceased were identified as Sani Sa’idu and Ibrahim Sule.

Kiyawa said the remains of the victims have been deposited at the Bichi General Hospital, adding that investigation was going on to ascertain the cause of the incident.
Though it is illegal, but there were hundreds of miners who throng mining sites to eke out a living in the state in search of stones, like blue sapphires.
The state government had banned illegal mining activities due to its effect on the environment such as the degradation and pollution of drinking water.
There are also fears for security concerns that usually accompany such activities due to the presence of all sorts of people.
