Two police officers have been confirmed dead following an attack by the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, popularly known as Shi’ites, in the Wuse area of Abuja.

Confirming the incident on Sunday, August 25, 2024, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said three policemen were unconscious in the hospital, adding that three police patrol vehicles were set ablaze by Shi’ites.

“The proscribed organisation attacked the police checkpoint unprovoked, wielding machetes, improvised explosive devices (locally made bombs in bottles with kerosene), and knives,” Adeh stated.

The police spokesperson noted that some suspects have been arrested.

She further quoted the FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, as condemning the attack on police officers and promising to bring the assailants to book.

“The situation is presently under control and normalcy restored. Further development will be communicated in due course,” Adeh said.
