2 siblings in court for stealing fowls

Two siblings, 18-year-old Ekene Ognwe and 14-year-old Goodluck Ognwe, have been arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital, for allegedly stealing fowls valued at N30,000.

The siblings were arraigned before the court on a charge of stealing on Friday, October 18, 2024.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence at about 06:00 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, October 17.

Adeniyi said the two brothers stole two fowls valued at N30,000, belonging to one Uche Elizabeth.

Adeniyi said the offence contravened Section 302(1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.

Upon inquiry by the court, the second defendant told the court that he did not accompany his elder brother to where he stole the fowls.

Goodluck said Ekene only called him to pick one fowl as they were not living together.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.

The defence counsel, Oluwafemi Alabi, urged the court to grant the siblings bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, granted the first defendant bail in the sum of N20,000, with one surety in like sum and discharged the second defendant.

Babalogbon adjourned the case till October 31, 2024, for hearing.
