An Upper Customary Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, has sentenced two teenagers, Abdulrahman Dahiru and Abba Bala, to a one month suspended jail term for stealing goats.
Presiding judge Emmanuel Samaila, on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, suspended the sentence of 19-year-old Dahiru and 17-year-old Bala for one year in line with section 257 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law.
The teenagers were given a fine of N136,000 each.
The judge said: “The defendants have been given a chance to prove that they can behave well, being young men with bright futures and first time offenders who have shown remorse.

“If they breach the terms of their suspended sentence or commit another crime within the specified period of time, they will be made to serve the original prison term imposed on them.”
The teenagers were charged with criminal conspiracy and theft, contrary to sections 58 and 270 the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.
Police prosecutor Inspector Esther Bishen told the court one Musa Makama at Borno Street in Kaduna State reported the matter to the police on March 20.
Bishen said the defendants alongside one Mailaya Sagir, now at large, went to Baba Emeka Street and stole the complainant’s two goats worth N34,000.
She said one of the goats was found in the teenagers’ possession already slaughtered.
When the charge was read to them, they pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.
