2023: Osinbajo screened, says APC ahead any party

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would win the 2023 presidential election, saying “we are ahead of any party”.

Osinbajo, a presidential aspirant of the APC, said this on Tuesday while speaking to newsmen shortly after he was screened by the APC Presidential Screening Panel led by the party’s former National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun.

The screening, which commenced on Monday, is being held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

Speaking to newsmen after he was screened by the ruling party on Tuesday, Osinbajo said the exercise was fruitful.

He said: “We were able to discuss several issues; issues of national and party concerns; and it went very well indeed; we had a very good chat.

“Of course, we are ahead of any party; way ahead, APC is ahead.”

No fewer than 25 APC presidential aspirants are expected to be screened by the screening panel.

Other aspirants vying for the APC presidential ticket alongside Osinbajo include the party’s National Leader, Bola Tinubu; Governors Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa); the immediate past Ministers Rotimi Amaechi (Transportation), Emeka Nwajiuba (State for Education); Senator representing Ondo-North, Sen. Ajayi Boroffice; Pastor Tunde Bakare, and Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye.

Others expected to be screened by the committee are Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; former Senate President, Ken Nnamani; former Ministers Godswill Akpabio (Niger Delta Affairs), Ogbonnaya Onu (Science and Technology), and Ikeobasi Mokelu (Information).

Others include Governors Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Ben Ayade (Cross River); former Governors Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Sani Yarima (Zamfara); a female aspirant, Uju Ohanenye; Nicholas Felix; former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole; Tein Jack-Rich, and a few others.
