2023 presidency: I won’t endorse Atiku, Tinubu, Obi ― Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said he would not endorse any presidential candidate for the 2023 presidency.

Adeboye said this following his reported meeting with the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Although the details of the meeting had yet to be ascertained, it was gathered that it may not be unconnected with the controversy trailing the APC’s Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket ahead of the 2023 general election.

Tinubu, a Muslim, had picked a former governor of Borno State, Sen. Kashim Shettima, who is also a Muslim as his running mate, leading to the ruling party’s Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.

It was gathered that the two-term former Lagos State Governor met with Adeboye at the Redemption camp on Sunday.

Reacting to the development, the RCCG, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said Pastor Adeboye would not speak on behalf of Christians on the controversy trailing the APC’s Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.

The church added that the revered cleric has “not and will not endorse” any candidate ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

“It has come to our notice that some new outlets are reporting that a meeting between Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God worldwide and former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, was held a few days back at the Redemption Camp where our esteemed father in the Lord was said to have supported the preferred candidature of the party the former governor is a member of.

“Pastor E.A. Adeboye is under the authority of God, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), and as such will not speak on behalf of Christians on issues regarding policies.

“Pastor E.A. Adeboye and RCCG have not and will not endorse any candidate for the 2023 general elections in Nigeria,” the RCCG stated.
