2023: Tambuwal steps down for Atiku

Sokoto State Governor and presidential aspirant, Aminu Tambuwal, has stepped down for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primary race.

Tambuwal, who made this known on Saturday during the PDP National Convention holding at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, urged his supporters to vote for Atiku in the presidential primaries.

The governor said: “Having consulted widely throughout the length and breadth of the country, I have come to the belief that as a leader, a time will come to make sacrifices for the good of all.

“To avoid rancour in the party and to address the suffering of Nigerians, I have come to conclusion to step down my aspiration.”

Atiku was the presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2019 general election.

He was, however, defeated by President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Other aspirants vying for the PDP presidential ticket include Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike; former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

Others are Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State; his Bauchi State counterpart, Bala Mohammed; a former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose; former Senate President, Pius Anyim; Diana Teriela, the only woman in the race; media mogul, Dele Momodu; a pharmacist, Sam Ohuabunwa; Charles Ugwu, and Chikwendu Kalu.
