The Senate Caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday told the National Leader of the governing party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, that they are with in his presidential bid.
Tinubu, a Third Republic senator and former two-term governor of Lagos State, was in the Senate to formally inform APC senators about his presidential ambition.
The former governor has declared his intention to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Senate President Ahmad Lawal assured Tinubu of the senators’ support.
Lawan said: “Your Excellency, once again, all of us wish you well, wish you the best of luck, wish you success in this and in the affair of fighting for APC, to continue to be the ruling party in Nigeria, and justifiably so, Your Excellency, we are with you.”
Tinubu had earlier told APC senators that his presidential ambition is about securing good government.
He said: “I seek your advice and counsel as stakeholders in this democratic journey. I seek your partnership in my quest to become the presidential candidate of our party and to win the general election in February 2023 for all APC candidates.
“This is not about gaining power. It is about securing good government for the nation.
“Together, the executive and legislative branches of this democratic tree must strive to cultivate and bring forth good fruit for the welfare of the people.”
Tinubu thereafter proceeded to the House of Representatives’ wing to hold another parley with the lawmakers of the lower chamber.
