Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and his allies, Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, on Monday, failed to attend the flag off of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign in Akwa Ibom State.

Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, was also absent at the presidential campaign held at the Nest of Champions Stadium in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

Those present at the campaign include the party’s presidential candidate and former Vice President, Akitu Abubakar; his running mate and Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa; and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel.

Others include Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed; and his Adamawa State counterpart, Ahmadu Fintiri.

Others are a former lawmaker representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye; among other top party chieftains.

The Star recalls that Wike, who lost the party’s presidential primaries to Atiku in May, and his allies have since been calling for the removal of PDP National Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, as a condition to campaign for the party’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 general election.

The governor and his loyalists maintained that Ayu should step down for a southerner.

Governor Wike and his allies, on September 20, announced their withdrawal from the PDP presidential campaign council.

They also boycotted the inauguration of the party’s campaign council held on September 28 in Abuja.
