25 die, 10 injured in Bauchi accident

No fewer than 25 people have been killed while 10 others were injured in a fatal accident that occurred in Udubo, Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The accident, which occurred on Thursday, was confirmed by the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) in Bauchi State, Yusuf Abdullahi, while speaking to newsmen on Friday.

Abdullahi said the incident, which happened at about 4.30 p.m. on Thursday, involved 35 people comprising 19 male adults, 11 female adults, two male children, and three female children.

He stated that the driver of the Hummer Bus lost control and ran into 11 people taking shelter under a tree close to a car wash.

The FRSC Sector Commander said: “The lone crash occurred yesterday, Thursday, 23rd March 2023 at Udubo, along Hadeja-Potiskum route in Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, involving an Ash Commercial Toyota Hummer Bus with registration number: JMA 59XA.

“The crash was caused by overloading, speed violation which led to a tyre burst and loss of control. The driver lost control and ran into some people taking shelter under a tree. You know because the weather is hot, so they were under the tree when some of them were killed.

“24 people were inside the Hummer Bus while the remaining 11 people were taking shelter under the tree close to a car wash as stated by men of the Nigeria Police Force.

“Immediately we got the information, our men rushed to the scene for a rescue operation and evacuated the victims to the Federal Medical Center, Azare, for treatment and confirmation.

“It was there at the hospital that a medical doctor confirmed 25 people – nine male adults, 11 female adults, two male children, and three female children dead. Ten others sustained various degrees of bruise.”

Abdullahi said the corpses have been released for burial by their families in Hadeja, Jigawa State, adding that the injured were receiving treatment at the hospital.
