28-year-old man dies in Bayelsa cult clash

A 28-year-old man, Victor Namabebe, has been confirmed dead in a cult clash at Amarata, a suburb in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

It was gathered that the cult groups, Greenlanders and the Bobos, clashed at about 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.

Sources in the area, on Wednesday, disclosed that the deceased stormed the Amarata/Ebis Mechanic area with a group of boys suspected to be members of Greenlanders.

The sources said the Greenlanders came for a member of Bobos who they alleged had earlier “crossed” (encountered) them.

It was further gathered that many of the residents, who were at various football viewing centres at about 8 p.m. for the UEFA Champion League matches, abandoned the game and scampered for safety.

The incident was confirmed by the Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Musa Mohammed.

Mohammed said the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at a hospital morgue in Yenagoa.

He said: “At about 9 p.m., on Tuesday, one Chief Emmanuel Namabebe reported at the A Division of the Nigeria Police that his 28-year-old son, Victor Namabebe, was found dead at Amarata area of the state capital.
