5 feared killed as traders, okada riders clash in Abuja

Tragedy struck at Dei Dei community, Abuja on Wednesday as no fewer than persons were reportedly killed, following a clash between traders and commercial motorcyclists, otherwise called okada riders.

The clash was said to have occurred after a okada rider and his passenger was involved in an accident in the community.

A resident of the area disclosed that the traders attacked the motorcyclist, whom they blamed for recklessness which led to the death of the passenger.

The okada rider’s colleagues were said to have stormed the area to rescue him from the attackers, a situation which led to the clash.

“Five persons that I know have been killed in this incident. We have been calling for security intervention to no avail,” the resident, who pleaded anonymity, said.

It was, however, gathered that security operatives have moved to the scene to prevent further violence.
