5 killed as gunmen attack military checkpoint in Soludo’s hometown

No fewer than five gunmen were killed in a gun battle with security operatives after the assailants attacked a military checkpoint in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Isuofia is the hometown of the Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo.

Confirming the incident via a statement, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, said the gunmen attacked the military checkpoint at about 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Tochukwu noted that the security operatives also recovered one grey Toyota Venza jeep with Reg. KRD 344 BT from the gunmen.

“The Joint Forces from FOB Aguata responded swiftly, engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel, and neutralised five of the armed men while others escaped with dark blue Lexus 470 jeep without plate number from the scene with bullet wounds,” he added.

Speaking on the incident, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Echeng Echeng, urged the officers to sustain the tempo against the onslaught of criminals in the state.

Echeng also ordered patrols to be intensified just as he called for improved operational positioning to respond to distress calls in the state.
