The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered water-tight security across the country to create a safe and conducive environment for Nigerians to celebrate the nation’s 64th Independence on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

As part of the IGP’s plan to ensure a seamless celebration, Egbetokun ordered the deployment of adequate human and tactical resources to enable a maximum level of security for the independence celebration.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made this known in a statement on Monday, September 30, 2024.

Adejobi stated that the police, in synergy with other security agencies, will fortify various designated event venues and the major highways across the country, to forestall any threats to lives and property and the independence celebration.

He further noted that the IGP has directed all police officers deployed for various operations during the celebration to be courteous and firm in their engagements with members of the public.
