No fewer than nine persons were confirmed dead while seven others sustained injuries in an accident involving a truck and a Mazda bus at Kere bridge on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway in Ogun State.
The spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.
Okpe disclosed that the accident, which occurred at about 8 a.m. on Tuesday, was caused by speeding and route violation which led to a head-on collision between the truck and the bus on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.
She said 17 persons were involved in the accident, comprising seven men, nine women, and one female child.

“Unfortunately, nine persons were recorded dead from the crash, comprising five men and four women,” she said.
The FRSC spokesperson stated that the injured victims had been taken to the General Hospital in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, while the deceased were deposited at the same hospital.
Okpe further quoted the Sector Commander of the FRSC in Ogun State, Anthony Uga, as warning motorists against route violation and speeding, noting the enormous dangers associated with the two offences.
Uga also enjoined the motorists to always adhere to traffic rules and regulations.
