Popular Nigerian actor, Yul Edochie, has responded to the House of Representatives’ indictment that Nollywood should be partly blamed for the increase in the rate of ritual killings in the country.

The House of Reps had during plenary on Wednesday called for the declaration of a state of emergency on ritual killings in the country and partly blamed the crime on the Nollywood industry.

The lower chamber of the National Assembly also called on all stakeholders to begin a national campaign to change the orientation of Nigerians towards the menace in the country.

However, Yul Edochie, while reacting to the House of House of Reps’ accusation via his Instagram page on Friday, asked the lawmakers to “fix the country” and stop blaming Nollywood for the increase in the rate of ritual killings in the country.

The 40-year-old actor shared pictures on his Instragam which read: “From when I was a kid in the eighties, I started hearing about ritual killing in Nigeria. Then, there was no Nollywood.

“Hunger poverty make people to do crime. No, be Nollywood cause am. Nollywood is only showing what happens in society.

“Nigerians are wallowing in extreme poverty. A hungry man is an angry man.

“Fix the country and crime will go away. Don’t blame Nollywood.”

Edochie shared the pictures with the caption: “Frustrated people use sniper to commit suicide.

“The remedy is to fix the reason for the frustration, not to ban sniper.”
