A video of an officer of the Nigeria Customs Service slapping Samson Nwachukwu, the Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has surfaced online.
It was gathered that the incident occurred along the Benin/Agbor Expressway on Saturday.
It was learnt that the governor’s aide was driving with a friend when he was stopped by two customs officers and a soldier.
In the video obtained by The Star, an argument ensued between Nwachukwu and the customs officer before the operative proceeded to slap the governor’s aide.
Rights advocate, Harrison Gwamnishu, also posted the video on his Facebook page on Sunday.
He noted that the governor’s aide, who is also a volunteer for Behind Bars, “never retaliated but endured the pain”.

“Yesterday, customs officer and army officer along Benin/Agbor Expressway confidently assaulted our Human Rights volunteer and Special Assistant to Delta State Governor (Ombudsman), Mr Samson Nwachukwu.
“We will protest this assault till the authority discipline these men.”
“We are shutting down that expressway to demand Justice. We want to know his crime. #EndBrutality,” Gwamnishu stated.
Meanwhile, Nwachukwu’s colleague, Success Ossai, has called on the Nigeria Customs Service to identify the officer and take necessary action.
Ossai, who took to his Facebook page on Sunday, wrote: “Help identify this officer so he can be arrested. This Nigeria Customs officer’s action is barbaric and needs to be dealt with by the authority.
“No one deserved to be treated this way.”
