The Kaduna State Government has flagged off the disbursement of conditional cash transfer and distributed learning materials to over 2,600 almajirai in the state.
This was done under a programme tagged, ‘Children in Street Situation Programme’, which seeks to provide support for almajirai integration with their families and other residents of Kaduna State.
The Kaduna State Deputy Governor, Dr Hadiza Balarabe, who flagged off the cash transfer in Kaduna on Wednesday, said the state government believes in the future of its citizens, adding that it was committed to their human capital development.

Balarabe, who was represented by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Barr. James Kanyip, stated that the Kaduna State Government has continued to prioritised free basic education and has enacted a law that makes basic education compulsory in the state while partnering with bodies like UNICEF to take all street children back to the classroom.
“Supported by UNICEF, the children in street programme ensures that each child benefiting from the programme gets a birth certificate from the National Population Commission (NIN) and State Residency Identity Number from Kaduna Residents Registration Agency, enrolled in public schools under SUBEB and has a special bank account created and managed by Keystone Bank,” the deputy governor said.
Speaking, the UNICEF Child Protection Specialist, Dr Wilfred Mamah, who commended the Kaduna State Government for having “clarity of purpose and showing leadership”, said UNICEF and the state government believe that “the best place for a child to be is the family”.
