No fewer than two officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have been crushed to death by a truck driver along Ikot-Ikpene-Aba Road in Akwa Ibom State.
The incident which occurred on Friday involved an FRSC patrol vehicle and a DAF articulated truck.
Confirming the incident, the FRSC spokesperson, Bisi Kazeem, in a statement made available to The Star on Friday, said the accident occurred as a result of excessive speed indulged by the driver of the truck while trying to dodge a pothole along the Ikot-Ikpene-Aba Road.
Kazeem stated that the road crash affected eight male adults, out of which two sustained severe injuries.

The FRSC spokesman noted that two persons were killed, while the remaining four passengers were rescued without any injuries.
He said the injured persons have been taken to Ikot Ekpene General hospital, adding that the deceased have been deposited in the mortuary of the same hospital.
Reacting to the incident, the FRSC Acting Corps Marshal, Dauda Ali Biu, said the incessant crushing of the Corps patrol operatives was due to the recklessness of some drivers who have continuously violated the legally prescribed speed limit.
Biu pledged the resolve of the Corps to apprehend perpetrators of this deadly act and force them to face the wrath of the law.
The Acting Corps Marshal, however, expressed his condolences to the families of the FRSC officers who lost their lives in active service, assuring the public of the Corps’ resilience and resolve to ensure that the perpetrators of the bad driving culture are forced to face the law.
