A Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, has remanded the lawmaker representing Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Ephraim Nwuzi.
Nwuzi, who is the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Etche-Omuma Federal Constituency in the February 25, 2023, election, was accused of treasonable felony, conspiracy, motion of communal crisis, and inciting violence by the Rivers State Police Command.
When the matter was mentioned in the court on Wednesday, the counsel to the lawmaker, Emenike Ebete, made an oral bail application.

The bail application was however opposed by the prosecution and the Investigation Police Officers in charge of the matter, requesting that Nwuzi be remanded to pave the way for proper investigation and arraignment.
Chief Magistrate O Amadi-Nna, after listening to the arguments, ordered the remand of Nwuzi in a correctional centre in Rivers State.
The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, had in a statement said the Supervising Assistant Inspector General of Police for elections in the state, Abutu Yaro, invited Nwuzi over an inciting video where he allegedly directed his supporters to attack some persons, including officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the 2023 general election.
It was however gathered that the federal lawmaker was arrested on Wednesday morning at his residence in Chokocho, Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State by police officers.
