Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed no fewer than two officers of the Nigeria Customs Service in Kebbi State.
The Customs officers were killed in a gun battle with the bandits while on a stop-and-search operation along Bunza–Dakingari-Koko Road, Kebbi State, on Thursday, August 24, 2023.
The incident was confirmed in a statement issued by the acting Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi Area Command, Nigeria Customs Service, Mubarak Mustapha, on Friday, August 25.
Mustapha identified the slain Customs officers as Kabiru Shehu, an Inspector of Customs; and Abdullahi Muhammad, a Customs Assistant II.

He noted that the officers have since been buried according to Islamic rites.
The Customs spokesman added: “While praying for the repose of the deceased, the Command has launched a manhunt for the suspects with the view to arrest and prosecute them.
“The Customs Area Area Controller, Comptroller Ben Oramalugo, commiserates with the families on the tragic incident and prays that God Almighty grants them the fortitude to bear the loss.
“The CAC also urge members of the public to volunteer information about the movement of suspected smugglers and other criminals. He assured such informants of strict confidentiality.”
