A Kano State High Court sitting in Kano has sentenced a Chinese national, Frank Geng-Quangrong, to death by hanging for killing his girlfriend, Ummukhulsum Buhari.
Quangrong had stabbed Ummukhulsum, who lived in the Janbulo area of Kano, to death over an alleged claim that she was no longer interested in the relationship on September 16, 2022.
Geng was said to have gone to Ummukhulsum’s house and knocked at the door frantically at about 8 p.m. on the fateful day before forcing himself into the apartment at about 9 p.m.
Once inside the house, the Chinese national pushed his way through into the room of his late girlfriend and stabbed her to death.

“When we got tired of his knocking, I went out to tell him to keep off our house, but he pushed and went straight into her room and killed her.
“We then began shouting and neighbours came to our rescue and apprehended him,” Ummukhulsum’s mother had said.
The Kano State Government later arraigned the Chinese national in court over a charge of murder.
Quangrong claimed that the stabbing of Ummukhulsum was in self-defence.
However, the court, on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, ruled that the Chinese national was guilty of murder. He was then sentenced to death by hanging.
