Bashir El-Rufai, the son of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has lashed out at incumbent Governor Uba Sani over the alleged huge debt inherited from the immediate past administration.

The Star recalls that Governor Sani, on Friday, lamented the high debt profile he inherited from his predecessor, El-Rufai.

Sani, who spoke at a town hall meeting in Kaduna, said his administration inherited a debt burden of $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities from the immediate past administration.

Taking to his social media accounts to speak on the development, Bashir accused Sani of shying away from his responsibility as the governor of Kaduna State.

He added that the state government is currently building a banquet hall for N7 billion.

“The current administration in Kaduna is building a banquet hall for 7BN naira and is lamenting about debt left by the previous administration,” the former governor’s son wrote on X.

Bashir also reacted to the debt on his Facebook page, saying: “If debt is preventing government from working, Lagos would have been closed.”

The huge debt accusation by Sani has since been eliciting reactions across Kaduna State.

The Women Leader of the Kaduna State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Maryam Suleiman, defended El-Rufai over the recent controversy on the state’s huge debt.

The party has however suspended Suleiman for her remark.
