President Bola Tinubu has sympathised with the victims of the collapsed school building in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

The Star had reported that a two-storey building of Saints Academy, a secondary and primary school located at Busa-Buji community of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State collapsed on Friday, July 12, 2024, leading to multiple deaths.

The Plateau State Government confirmed 22 deaths and 132 injured persons from the collapsed building.

The state government added that six of the injured persons were in critical condition.

Tinubu, while speaking on the incident via a statement issued on Friday by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, described the school building collapse as a huge loss to Nigeria, “as well as a devastating development – too excruciating to imagine”.

The president condoled with the bereaved families, families of all the victims, and the people and government of Plateau State.

President Tinubu also commended emergency responders, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), security agencies, and all citizens involved in the search, rescue, and resuscitation efforts.

He, therefore, assured the people of Plateau State of his “fervent support at this difficult time”.
