The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted illicit drugs worth N2,234,400,000 at the Tincan seaport in Lagos State.
The NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, August 25, 2024.
Babafemi revealed that the illicit drugs, codeine-based syrup, were concealed in two containers which came from Mundra port in India.
He stated that 1,596 cartons of codeine-based syrup containing 319,200 bottles of the opioid worth N2.2 billion in street value were recovered from the containers during a joint examination by the anti-narcotic officers with other port stakeholders
The NDLEA spokesperson added that two women were arrested by the operatives of the anti-drug agency in Edo State for online sales of illicit drugs.

Babafemi disclosed that 26-year-old Martha Owotorofa was nabbed at Kada Plaza in Benin with quantities of Canadian Loud, while 21-year-old Odion Uzordinma was arrested in the Ugbowo area of the state capital with 30 cups of cookies and 17 slices of cake, all laced with illicit substances.
Babafemi said a raid operation at Oghada village in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State on Tuesday, August 20, led to the arrest of a 50-year-old man, Saturday Edobor, with 288.8kg of cannabis.
He further stated that the anti-drug agency continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation activities to schools, worship centres, workplaces, and communities, among others, in the past week.
The NDLEA spokesman listed the sensitisation activities to include WADA enlightenment lecture to pupils of Dan Amus Sangaya school, Sabon Layi, Gombi in Adamawa State; workers of transport companies in Garki Enugu, Enugu State; students and staff of Kaduna State School of Nursing in Kaduna; and WADA advocacy visit to the management of Chrisland University in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Commending the anti-narcotic officers for the arrests and seizures, the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), also enjoined them and their colleagues across the country to continue with the ongoing balanced approach to the drug control efforts of the agency.
