Jarrod Bowen scored a controversial 90th-minute penalty as West Ham grabbed a 2-1 win over wasteful Manchester United at the London Stadium to leapfrog Erik ten Hag’s side in the Premier League table on Sunday.
Cole Palmer also grabbed a goal to help Chelsea overcome Newcastle United 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.
Casemiro looked to have rescued a point for United after Crysencio Summerville had capitalised on some shocking first-half finishing to put West Ham ahead.
But there was drama in the final moments when referee David Coote was sent to the pitchside monitor to examine a collision between Matthijs de Ligt and Danny Ings.
Replays appeared to show the United defender clipping the ball before catching the West Ham attacker but Coote – after a long review – decided there was enough contact to warrant a penalty.
United’s players were incensed but Bowen kept his cool to find the bottom corner and send his side up to 13th in the table, ahead of the Red Devils on goals scored.

It was a real hammer blow for Ten Hag, who had seen Diogo Dalot fire a miss-of-the-season contender over an unguarded goal in an opening 45 minutes which also included Alejandro Garnacho hitting the bar.
The pressure on Ten Hag will ramp up again. It’s just one win in eight matches for his side across all competitions. In contrast, the scrutiny on his West Ham counterpart, Julen Lopetegui, eases.
Goals by Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer earned Chelsea a 2-1 home win over Newcastle in the latest sign of progress for the Blues under manager Enzo Maresca.
Jackson rounded off a sweeping counter-attack to give Chelsea the lead with his sixth goal of the season in the 18th minute, converting a perfect cross by Pedro Neto who had been set free down the left wing by a pinpoint pass from Palmer.
Newcastle equalised against the run of play when Alexander Isak converted a cross by former Chelsea defender Lewis Hall in the 32nd minute.
Barely a minute into the second half, Palmer restored Chelsea’s lead when he picked up a pass from Romeo Lavia close to the halfway line, raced to the edge of the box and fired a low shot past Nick Pope.
The win pushed Chelsea up to fourth place in the league table ahead of fifth-placed Arsenal on goal difference. Arsenal are currently playing Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.
