The Dawanau International Grains Market is set to start operating 24-hour business activities with the upgrade of the market by the Kano State Government Collaborative Project with the World Islamic Development Bank.
The Kano Agro-pastoral Development Project Engineer, Engr Zaharaddeen Zarewa, made this known in Kano on Monday, December 16, 2024.
Zarewa said the government’s collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank, Live and Livelihood Project and other partners has yielded impressive results by transforming the market into a hub of economic activities.
Zarewa stated that the state government has invested heavily in the market’s infrastructural development.
He said the Kano State Government had provided a four-kilometre road network, drainages, solar lighting, and offices for the leaders of the market association and toilets.

“The impact of these interventions has been profound. The road network and drainage system have eased the conduct of businesses, enabling merchants and clients to transact smoothly. This, in turn, has greatly boosted the grains market business,” Zarewa said.
Also speaking, the Deputy President 1 of the Dawanau Grains International Market, Baba Wawu, commended the Kano State Government’s commitment to the project.
Wawu noted that the road network and drainages have saved the market from the menace of flooding and other environmental hazards.
“The modern offices and infrastructure have also transformed the market’s operations, making it more attractive to clients and customers from within and abroad,” he said.
The business community in Dawanau also pledged to continue supporting government policies to move Kano State forward.
