Abacha clinches Kano PDP governorship ticket

Mohammed Abacha, son of late military dictator, General Sani Abacha, has won the Peoples Democratic Party gubernatorial primary election conducted by Sagagi-led leadership of the PDP in Kano State.

The returning officer of the election, Barr. Amina Garba, declared Abacha as the winner after polling 736 votes to defeat his challenger, Jafar Sani-Bello, who got 710 votes.

The chairman the electoral committee, Mohammed Jamu, said the primary election was legally conducted with genuine delegates and supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), police and State Security Service personnel.

Meanwhile, the other faction of the PDP under the leadership of National Vice Chairman, North West, Bello Hayatu Gwarzo, organised a different primary election that is yet to be concluded at Sani Abacha Youths Centre in Kano.

The Star correspondent, who was at the venue of the parallel primaries, reports that delegates were still casting their votes.

Aspirants participating at the faction election are Yunusa Dangwani, Yusuf Dambatta, Muaz Magaji, Ibrahim Ali-Amin, Sadiq Wali and Mustapha Getso.

There is legal battle in Kano State chapter of the PDP over whose leadership is legitimate between Sagagi-led leadership and Gwarzo-led leadership.

Federal High Courts in Kano and Abuja have confirmed legitimacy on the Sagagi-led faction executives on May 24 and 25, 2022.
