Abacha’s daughter’s second marriage to governor crashes after 2 years

The marriage of Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, to Gumsu Abacha, the daughter of former Head of State, Sani Abacha, has reportedly ended in a divorce.

Gumsu revealed her divorce while replying to a commenter who called her “First Lady” on her X handle on Sunday.

This was after Gumsu shared her picture with a two-word caption, “Emancipation… Liberation”, on X.

Responding to one of the comments, the daughter of the former Head of State said: “I am not married.”

Governor Buni, on April 14, 2021, got married to 45-year-old Gumsu and paid 24 gold coins as dowry.

The marriage ceremony took place at the Abuja residence of her elder brother, Mohammed Abacha, and had in attendance the then Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Hameed Ali; former National Commissioner, Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Bashir Garba-Lado; and Kano-based Islamic cleric, Aminu Daurawa; among others.

Gumsu was previously married to a Cameroonian billionaire, Bayero Mohamadou, but the 20-year-old marriage ended in 2020.
