A former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) of the University of Ibadan (UI), Prof. Adigun Agbaje, who was kidnapped on the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, has regained freedom.

This was confirmed by the Head of Department, Political Science, UI, Prof. Remi Aiyede, on Sunday night.

Aiyede disclosed that Agbaje was released on Sunday, adding that he was undergoing a medical checkup.

“Prof Agbaje has just been released about a few hours ago. He is okay and undergoing medical checkup,” he said.

It would be recalled that Prof. Agbaje was among a yet-to-be-ascertained number of persons kidnapped at the Dominion University area on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway last Friday.

His wife, Dr Adebola Agbaje, on Sunday, pleaded for the release of her husband, saying her expected gratuity was not enough to pay the N50 million ransom demanded.

However, it could not be ascertained if the N50 million ransom was paid for the release of the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor.
