Again, gunmen attack Catholic church, kill worshippers

No fewer than three worshippers were killed on Sunday as gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked St. Moses Catholic Church in Robuh, Unguwan Aku, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State during service.

Many other worshippers were also abducted in the attack.

It was gathered that one of the victims was brought to St. Gerald Catholic Hospital in Kaduna.

A source in the community disclosed that the gunmen came in large numbers, shooting sporadically and in the process kidnapped many worshippers after killing three persons while others sustained varying degree of injuries.

This is coming barely two weeks after terrorists attacked St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State and killed many worshippers.

The worshippers killed by terrorists on June 5 were laid to rest on Friday after a funeral mass was held in their honour.

40 of the 127 persons in the church were killed, leaving 87 survivors out of which 61 are currently on admission in different hospitals and 26 already discharged.

The Federal Government later revealed that the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists masterminded the attack.

However, Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Kayode Fayemi, described the claims linking ISWAP to the church attack as mere speculation.

Fayemi stressed that no evidence has confirmed that the terrorists were responsible for the attack, adding that the position of the Federal Government was only speculative.
