The Supreme Court has affirmed the immediate past Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, as the senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Akwa Ibom North Senatorial District.
Akpabio was affirmed as the senatorial candidate by the Supreme Court on Friday after the apex court overturned the Court of Appeal judgement delivered on November 14, 2022, which voided his candidacy.

In a unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, the apex court upheld the ruling of the Federal High Court in Abuja which, in September 2022, granted verdict in favour of the former governor of Akwa Ibom State.
Justice Saulawa after reviewing the arguments canvassed by Akpabio said his appeal was meritorious and allowed.
