Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has written the State House of Assembly for the extension of his medical leave.

The Assembly Speaker, Olamide Oladiji, who made this known via a statement issued on Monday, July 10, 2023, noted that the governor’s action was in line with Section 190 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

Oladiji stated that the governor’s request for the extension of his medical leave followed his doctor’s advice to take adequate rest in order to recuperate.

The Speaker said the letter provides further that the deputy governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, would continue to act as governor until there was a written declaration othersise.

He, however, expressed appreciation to God for the recovery of Akeredolu, adding that he was optimistic that the governor would soon resume his duties.

Governor Akeredolu had, on June 5, written the Assembly informing it of his intention to proceed on medical leave which was to end on July 6, 2023.

He later said he was on the path to recovery, assuring the people of Ondo State he would return to office soon.

Akeredolu, who urged the people of Ondo State to be rest assured, said he was in high spirits and have full faith in the expertise of his doctors.

The governor, in a statement he personally issued, added that he will return to the state once his doctors deem it expedient.
