Akpabio gifts N500m scholarship, laptops to 37 constituents in Akwa Ibom

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has presented scholarships worth N500 million to 37 constituents at Ikot Ekpene in the Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District.

The Senate President also presented laptops to his constituents during his visit to his constituency in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of Akwa State on Friday, January 19, 2024.

Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, said he was there to share the joy of the New Year with his constituents whose massive support and votes, he said, took him to the Senate and gained the support of President Bola Tinubu and his colleagues to emerge as the Senate President.

Calling on them to sustain their support for the All Progressives Congress (APC), Akpabio told his constituents that Tinubu’s administration was doing everything possible to renew the hopes of Nigerians to give them a better life.

He said as the Senate President, his duty was to interface with other arms of government to ensure that dividends of democracy get to them.

Akpabio, however, congratulated the beneficiaries for emerging out of the rigorous screening process.

“I am glad that you have shown brilliance by qualifying for this scholarship, after the screening process. This grant shall be a yearly gesture from my office throughout your four years of study,” he said.

Beneficiaries of the scholarship will receive N2 million and N2.5 million each for those studying a-four and five years course, respectively, under the scholarship scheme funded by the Senator Godswill Akpabio Educational Foundation (SGAEF).

Akpabio presented a cheque of N500,000 and a brand new laptop each to 37 beneficiaries of the scholarship for the 2023/2024 academic session during a meeting of stakeholders of Ikot Ekpene senatorial held at the Ati Annang hall, Ikot Ekpene, on Friday 19th January.

He said each beneficiary is entitled to N500,000 per session throughout the duration of their academic programmes.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of APC, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, said Akpabio has stabilised the legislative arm of government to entrench synergy with other arms for a better Nigeria.

Describing Akpabio as “not only being a pride of Akwa Ibom, but also a worthy ambassador”, Ntukekpo said the Senate President has fulfilled his promise of connecting the state with the centre, through the various engagements of Akwa Ibom citizens in top national MDAs and parastatal.
