Gumsu Sani Abacha, a daughter of former Head of State, Sani Abacha, has released a romantic picture with the embattled Yobe State Governor and Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Mai Mala Buni.

Buni has been reported to be in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for a medical check-up.

Gumsu, who is married to Governor Buni, took to her Twitter handle to share a romantic picture with her heartthrob on Saturday.

The daughter of the former Head of State captioned the picture with a love emoji.

Buni had tied the knot with Gumsu in 2021.

This is coming amidst the crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress over the purported replacement of Governor Buni with his Niger State counterpart, Abubakar Sani Bello, by President Muhammadu Buhari as the National Chairman of the APC caretaker committee.

The ruling party, through the National Youth Leader in the APC CECPC, Mr. Ismail Ahmed, had debunked the reports, saying Buni was only on medical leave and would resume soon.

This was also disclosed in a letter obtained by The Star which indicated the transfer of responsibilities by Governor Buni to Bello as the National Chairman of the APC CECPC.

Buni noted that he would resume as the chairman of the APC caretaker committee after he has been discharged from the hospital in UAE.

The letter dated February 28, 2022, was addressed to Governor Bello of Niger State.

Others copied in the letter titled, ‘Transmission of office of the National Chairman, CECPC’, include all members of the CECPC, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This is, however, contrary to the position of the governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, that President Buhari gave the directive for the removal of Buni and that 19 governors were in support of Bello.

Reports had in the early hours of Monday emerged that Buhari sanctioned the removal of Governor Buni as the chairman of the APC caretaker committee.

The National Secretary of the CECPC, Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe, however, denied any leadership change in the party’s caretaker committee.

Akpanudoedehe, in a statement issued on Monday, described the media report about leadership change in the APC as fake news, urging members of the party and the general public to disregard the report.

Hours later, the governor of Niger State, Abubakar Sani Bello, held an emergency meeting with some members of the APC CECPC.

Bello, who arrived the APC national secretariat in Abuja at about 12p.m., went straight to the National Working Committee (NWC) Hall.

When the governor came, he also parked his official vehicle at the designated parking lot of the “National Chairman”.

He was soon followed by the National Secretary of the CECPC, Akpanudoedehe, alongside 11 other members of the APC caretaker committee.

Speaking after the meeting with some of the APC leaders, Governor Bello said he has only been acting as the acting chairman of the caretaker committee since Buni travelled abroad for medical check-up.

It would be recalled that Buni took over the leadership of the party in June 2020 following the sack of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee.
