APC Convention: Buni drops SGF, 4 govs, 10 ministers from c’ttees

For the third time, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) has restructured the sub-committees for the March 26 National Convention.

Its returned chairman, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State on Thursday dropped four governors, 10 ministers and others from the list released last week by the acting chairman, Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger.

Governor Bello, who has lost out in the power struggle in APC, had last week restructured the composition of the committee and sub-committees approved by Buni.

Bello swapped the chairmanship of many of the committees and brought in some governors and ministers as chairmen and deputy chairmen.

The Niger governor also pruned down the membership of the committees to a handful of members.

But Buni has discarded the Bello’s list.

Detailed checks by The Star show four governors and 10 ministers were dropped by the Buni-led CECPC.

In the new list released on Thursday, Chairman of Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Dr. Kayode Fayemi was dropped as Co-Chair of the Pre-Convention Conferences Committee.

The Progress Report Committee to be chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, was cancelled.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo was dropped as Co-Chair of the Election Committee. Akeredolu had described governors backing Buni as “Yahoo Yahoo governors”.

Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi was dropped as Co-Chair of the Finance Committee. Minister of State for National Planning, Prince Clem Agba, who was billed to serve as Secretary was also dropped.

Governor Abdullahi A. Sule of Nasarawa was dropped as Chairman of the Media Committee. Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, was also dropped as Co-Chair. Presidential spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, who was to serve as Secretary is no longer part of the committee.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige was dropped as chairman of the Medical Committee. Former Minister of Health, Prof. Issac Adewole was also dropped as Co-Chair. So also the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, who was to serve as Secretary.

Minister of Finance, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed was dropped as Co-Chair of the Budget Committee. Her colleague in the Niger Delta Affairs Ministry, Godswill Akpabio was dropped as Co-Chair of the Protocol Committee. Same thing to Minister of State for Health, Sen. Olorunnimbe Mamora, who was to serve as Secretary.

Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiba, was dropped as Secretary of the Election Appeal Committee.

Minister of State for Environment, Barr. Sharon Ikeazor, was also dropped as Secretary of the Legal Committee.

Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, was dropped as Co-Chair of the Accommodation Committee.

Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, the former House of Representatives’ Speaker was dropped as Co-Chair of the Screening Appeal Committee.

Former Minister of Police Affairs, Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (rtd) was removed as Co-Chair of the Security/Protocol Committee.

Former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel was dropped from the Transportation/Logistics Committee as Co-Chair. Also, former DG of NIMASA, Hon. Dakuku Peterside who was picked as Secretary of the committee was dropped.

Former NPA Managing Director, Hadiza Bala Usman, was dropped as Secretary of the Election Committee.

Buni has returned former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, to the Media Committee as Deputy Chairmanship.

Fani-Kayode was earlier replaced by Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

In the new list, Governor Buni is the Chairman of the Central Coordinating Committee while Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe is the Secretary.

The Secretariat is chaired by Abdullahi Yusuf Gashu’a while Dare Oketade is the Secretary.

Governor Abdulrasaq Abdulrahman of Kwara heads the Screening Committee and ably assisted by Senator Andy Uba while Barr. Shuaibu Aruwa (SAN) is the Secretary of the committee.

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo is the Chairman, Screening Appeal Committee while Dr. Danjuma Adamu Dabo is the Secretary of the committee.

Governor Dapo Abiodun heads the Election/Planning Committee with Sen. Bassey Otu as Deputy Chairman and Chief Ikechi Emenike as Secretary.

APC restructures convention committees, drops Fani-Kayode

The Election Appeal Committee is headed by Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina with Barr. M.K Abubakar as Deputy Chairman and Barr. Moses Okezie as Secretary.

The Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) chairs the Legal Committee and assisted by Chief Niyi Akintola (SAN) as Deputy Chairman while Barr. Juliet Ibekaku serves as Secretary.

Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, is Chairman of the Accommodation Committee with former Speaker Oladimeji Bankole as Deputy Chairman while Dr. Zainab Gimba is Secretary.

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi chairs the Venue/Decoration/Site Servicing Committee with Minister of FCT, Muhammad Musa Bello as Co-Chair while Senator Stella Oduah is Secretary.

The Transportation/Logistics Committee is chaired by Governor Simon Lalong with Minister of Humanitarian and Disaster Mangement, Haj. Sadiya Umar Farouk, as Deputy Chairman with Hajiya Ireti Kingibe as Secretary.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is Chairman of Media/Publicity Committee. He is being deputised by former Femi-Kayode while Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, serves as Secretary.

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi chairs the Security/Protocol Committee with Air Marshal Abubakar Sadiq (Rtd) as Deputy Chairman. Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd) is Secretary.

Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege is Chairman of Accreditation Committee with Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha as Deputy Chairman while Hon. Godwin Afangideh serves as Secretary.

Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase is Chairman of Entertainment/Welfare Committee. Nsima Ekere is Deputy Chairman while Ahmed Bala is Secretary.

The Medical Committee is being chaired by Cross River Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade with Dr. Emmanuel A. Akabe as Deputy Chairman. Minister of State for FCT, Hon. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu is Secretary.

The Budget Committee is headed by Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, with Minister of Trade, Industry and Investment, Chief Niyi Adebayo as Deputy Chairman. Mr. Umana Okon Umana is Secretary.

Governor Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa chairs the Finance Committee with Hon. Abdullahi Ebilolobo as Deputy Chairman. NNPC Board Chairman, Sen. Margaret Okadigbo, is Secretary.

The Accreditation of Volunteers/Diplomats/Diaspora/Observers Committee is being chaired by Governor Umar Ganduje of Kano while the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, is Deputy Chairman. Hon. Abike Dabiri-Arewa is the Secretary.

The Digital Communication Committee is being chaired by Governor Nasiru El-Rufai of Kaduna with the immediate past deputy governor of Anambra State, Nkem Okeke – Deputy Chairman as Deputy Chairman. Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi is Secretary.

Governor of Borno State, Prof. Umaru Zulum, chairs the Legacy and Rapporteurs Committee with Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, as Deputy Chairman. Prof. Al-Mustapha Medaner is Secretary.

The approved Sub-Committees are to begin work immediately.
