The senator representing Edo Central Senatorial District, Monday Okpebholo, has been declared winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries in Edo State.
Senator Okpebholo polled 12,433 votes to defeat 11 other aspirants who contested the re-run election on Friday, February 23, 2024.
The senator was one of the three winners who emerged from last Saturday’s primaries which was declared inconclusive by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC.
Imo State Governor and then-chairman of the Edo APC governorship primary election committee, Hope Uzodimma, had declared a member of the House Representatives, Dennis Idahosa, as the winner of the primaries.
APC declares Edo guber primaries inconclusive
Uzodimma, who announced the results of the primaries in Benin, the state capital, on Saturday, February 17, said Idahosa polled 40,483 votes to clinch the APC gubernatorial ticket for the September 2024 governorship election in the state.
The governor was later replaced by his Cross River State counterpart, Bassey Otu, as the chairman of the Edo APC governorship primary election committee.
Otu, however, announced the final outcome of the primary election in Benin, the Edo State capital, on Friday, declaring Okpebholo as the winner.
