The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has appointed a former President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Muhammad Garba, as his Chief of Staff.
This was made known in a statement issued by the APC Director, Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.
Garba served as Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, and later as Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs from 2015 to 2023.
He was a Federal Commissioner at Fiscal Responsibility Commission from 2011 to 2014, Member and Convener Federal Government Subsidy and Reinvestment and Empowerment Committee (SURE-P) between 2012 to 2015.

Garba was two-term National President of NUJ, President West African Journalists Association (WAJA) and was also elected at Casablanca President Federation of African Journalists (FAJ) and a member of steering committee International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) Dublin, Ireland.
He was Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives in 1993 and to the Deputy Governor of Kano State from 1999-2003.
Garba, a holder of a Bachelor’s in History/Political Science and a Master’s in Development Studies from Bayero University, Kano, also holds a National Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication from the International Institute of Journalism.
He served as the spokesperson of Gawuna/Garo campaign organisation in 2023.
