APC to Kano govt: Your accusation won’t give you victory at tribunal

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has berated the Kano State Government for accusing the party of attempting to bribe a member of the Kano National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in the state.

The Kano State Government had made the accusation in reaction to a statement by the chairman of the tribunal, Justice Flora Azinge, saying there was an attempt to bribe a member of the tribunal with money in order to sway justice in favour of his client.

However, the APC in its reaction via a statement issued by the immediate past Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Muhammad Garba, on Thursday, August 17, 2023, said Justice Azinge didn’t mention any political party, “but just to denigrate the APC, the NNPP government referred to the APC as the bribe giver”.

Garba, who is the spokesperson for Gawuna/Gari Campaign Council, stated that the Kano State Government was also preempting the possible unreveling of the actual bribe giver by the tribunal and therefore wanted to malign the judge.

Garba stressed that the government was also trying to vilify the tribunal before delivering judgement to draw sympathy from the people of Kano State.

The former commissioner added that the state government was perplexed by filing an appeal while the tribunal is still holding its proceedings.

Garba, however, said the government’s action will not stop the tribunal from going on with its sittings until it delivers judgement.

“Even with an apparent sign of victory on its side, the APC has not and will never offer any bribe to anyone involved in the case considering that it has presented facts and figures to prosecute the matter before the tribunal,” he added.
