The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) has declared the All Progressive Congress (APC) as winner in 16 Local Government Areas in Saturďay’s election in the state.
12 political parties participated in the local government election for positions of chairman, deputy chairman, and councillors in 18 LGAs of Ondo State.
Announcing the result on Sunday, January 19, 2025, the ODIEC Chairman and Chief Returning Officer, Dr Joseph Aremo, said the APC also won all the councillorship seats in the 16 LGAs.
Aremo stated that the results for Owo LGA and Ondo West LGA, which was cancelled and rescheduled for Sunday due to wrong logo of one of the parties on the ballot papers, would be announced later.
The election in Ondo West LGA was cancelled because the old logo of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) was on the ballot papers.

The PDP Director of Media and Publicity in Ondo State, Leye Igbagbo, in a statement issued on Thursday, said withdrawal was because the party had no confidence in ODIEC conducting a fair and credible election.
