Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has agreed a new three-year deal with the Premier League club.
It was earlier reported that Arteta was expected to commit his future to Arsenal last month.
Arteta is in the final year of his current contract, but there has never been any concern about negotiations over a new deal, according to Sky Sports.
The Spaniard took over as Arsenal’s head coach in December 2019 and subsequently had his job title changed to manager.
The 42-year-old manager has led Arsenal back into the Champions League and turned them into title challengers in the last two seasons.
In his first season in charge, Arsenal lifted the FA Cup in 2020, while they secured two Community Shield victories in 2020 and 2023.
The Gunners will face Tottenham in the North London derby on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Premier League has ruled that Arsenal must wear their away kit during the club’s trip to Tottenham due to a kit clash with Spurs.
The Gunners always wear their traditional home kit of red and white for both north London derby fixtures, but the Premier League and refereeing body PGMOL have ruled that Arsenal’s current home strip “features too much white, thus clashing with Tottenham’s traditional colours”.
Arsenal reject Saudi club’s bid for Trossard
Arsenal will therefore wear their black away shirt for this Sunday’s match, with the Premier League also ruling that Tottenham must wear their away shirt for January’s trip to the Emirates as well.
Rule M.22 states that clubs must wear a strip that differs visibly from and contrasts with one another to ensure all stakeholders can clearly distinguish between the teams.
It was learnt that the Premier League raised an issue with Arsenal’s proposed home kit – for playing against teams with white strips – before it was registered.
This was due to the prominence of white on the sides and back of the shirt, even if Arsenal played in red shorts.
Given that the Gunners have an away kit which would provide the necessary contrast – and as is the usual process and in consultation with PGMOL – it is understood that the Premier League asked Arsenal to change to meet the requirements of the rule above.
Both Tottenham and Arsenal have worn their home shirts in every single north London derby since November 2012, when Spurs wore a return strip in a 5-2 loss.
The last time Arsenal wore an away kit at Tottenham was in March 1986, a derby which Spurs won 1-0.
Below are Arsenal’s next seven games:
September 15: Tottenham (A), Premier League
September 19: Atalanta (A), Champions League
September 22: Man City (A), Premier League
September 25: Bolton (H), Carabao Cup third round
