Road to 2023

At last, GAC endorses Sanwo-Olu for second term

The Governance Advisory Council (GAC) has endorsed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos for second term.

GAC, the highest political organ in Lagos APC, took decision on Monday April 18, 2022 after its meeting in Lagos.

The endorsement has laid to rest the possibility of Sanwo-Olu not getting a second term ticket in 2023 just as it happened to his predecessor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode.

Ambode’s second term ambition was truncated by GAC who influenced the state’s party organs to deny the then incumbent governor a return ticket in 2019 elections.

Sanwo-Olu’s spokesman, Gboyega Akosile, confirmed the endorsement of the governor for a second term.

“Lagos GAC gives nod to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term bid. The Governance Advisory Council at a meeting in Lagos today gave pass mark to Sanwo-Olu for staying through to the developmental agenda of Lagos.

“Congratulations dear boss!” Akosile wrote on his Facebook wall.

The GAC is made up of major political leaders in Lagos with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu playing a prominent role in the body.

The GAC had recently denied reports that the advisory council had found a replacement for the incumbent governor in the state’s Head of Service, Hakeem Muritala Okunola.

The Council, in a statement issued by its Secretary, described the report as “false and preposterous”.
