Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has disclosed how Nigeria can get rid of the insecurity bewildering the country.
Atiku, who was reacting to the recent attack in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State where no fewer than 11 soldiers were killed by terrorists, said the citizens of the country need to be united to defeat terrorism.
The Star had reported that no fewer than 11 soldiers were killed by terrorists, following an attack on an Army Forward Operational Base located along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari highway in Kaduna State.
Security sources disclosed that the soldiers were killed in an ambush laid by the terrorists along the highway on Sunday.
The sources disclosed that the assailants, in their hundreds, ambushed and massacred the soldiers, setting two military Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) ablaze.
However, Atiku, in a series of tweets on his verified Twitter handle on Thursday, said any attack on security operatives in the country is an attack on the citizens.
He wrote: “I strongly condemn the recent attack in Birnin Gwari LGA of Kaduna State. Any attack on our men and women in uniform, be it on military personnel and its institutions or police officers and police stations, is an attack on ourselves.

“We are at our most vulnerable when we are disunited. By so doing, we make it easier for our enemies to prey on us.
“The only way we can defeat this is to stand united in our commitment that as One People with One Future and One Country, there will always be full consequences for such actions!”
Atiku is one of the presidential aspirants of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2023 general election.
He was the presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2019 general election but lost to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Atiku, who deputised former President Olusegun Obasanjo between 1999 and 2007, had vied for the much-coveted seat in Aso Rock in 2007, 2011 and 2019.
