Atiku: I’m ready to resolve issues with Wike

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has declared his readiness to meet with Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and his allies to resolve their rift ahead of the 2023 general election.

Atiku made this known via a statement issued on Thursday by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe.

Wike and his allies, on Wednesday, during a meeting with Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, said they were ready to meet with the PDP leadership over the crisis rocking the main opposition party.

The governor and his allies, Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), otherwise known as G5, have since been calling for the removal of the PDP National Chairman, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu.

The aggrieved governors have insisted that it is unfair for the main opposition party to have the national chairman and presidential candidate from the northern region, stressing that Ayu should resign his position for justice, equity, and fairness in the PDP.

However, Atiku, in a statement by his media aide, said he welcomes reports that Governor Wike and his group are favourably disposed to the resolution of the issues with him.

The former Vice President further expressed his commitment to “a negotiation that will resolve the crisis of confidence and pave the way for a much stronger and united PDP.’

The PDP presidential standard-bearer noted that “never at any time of the differences that has ensued has the doors been shut to Governor Wike and his group.”

He, therefore, enjoined every leader of the PDP and their supporters “irrespective of their leanings to be open-minded and support the process of resolution of the extant issues.”
