Aubameyang to Arsenal fans: It hurts saying goodbye

Former Arsenal captain, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, has penned a farewell message to fans of the club following his move to Barcelona.

He said it hurts saying goodbye.

Aubameyang had signed for Barcelona on a free transfer on Deadline Day.

The 32-year-old Gabonese striker, who left Arsenal with 18 months still remaining of a contract worth £350,000 a week, was stripped of the club’s captaincy in December 2021 following a disciplinary issue.

He didn’t feature for the club after December 6, and was left out of Arsenal squad for the club’s warm-weather training camp in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Speaking on his latest move to Spain, the new Barcelona player took to his Instagram page on Tuesday night to write a farewell to Arsenal fans.

The former Arsenal captain, who thanked the fans of the club for making London a home for him and his family, however, expressed displeasure for not giving the chance to help his teammates in the last few weeks.

Aubameyang wrote: “To the Arsenal fans, thank you for making London home for myself and my family for the past four years. We went through ups and downs together and your support meant everything to me.

“Having the chance to win trophies and the honour of being the captain of this club is something I will forever keep in my heart.

“I have always been 100% focused and committed on doing everything I can for this club which is why leaving without a real goodbye hurts – but that is football.

“I’m sad I did not get the chance to help my teammates in the last few weeks, but I have nothing but respect for this club and truly wish all my guys and the fans all the best and many successful years in the future!”

Aubameyang scored 92 goals in 163 games for Arsenal.
