The Kano State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to enforcing ban on commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, in Kano metropolis.
The command has however directed all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) within the metropolis to ensure strict compliance to the extant law.
It made this known in a statement issued by the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, on Friday.
The statement read: “The Kano State Police Command under the leadership of CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, fsi wishes to remind the law-abiding and good people of the state that, the ban on carrying passengers on motorcycles (Achaba/Okada) is still in place.
“The command has directed all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) within Kano Metropolis to continue to enforce the ban. This is in line with the command’s efforts to ensure stability, safety, and security of the good people of the state.

“Anyone found violating the ban would face the wrath of the law. “Any individual or group that violates this ban, will be arrested and prosecuted before the Court of Law. Road users are advised to abide by traffic rules and regulations.”
Kiyawa, therefore, appealed to the residents of the state to support the police operatives in carrying out their duties, saying criminals will have no hideout in the state.
There are fears that after the recent ban on Okada in Lagos many northerners relocated to Kano being the commercial nerve centre of northern Nigeria.
