Bandits abduct 9 Katsina residents

Bandits have abducted no fewer than nine people during an attack on the residents of Shema in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The bandits were said to have stormed the community in their large number amid heavy downpour on Sunday at about 11:30 p.m. and abducted the victims before security personnel arrived at the scene.

A resident, who spoke in confidence, said the gunmen invaded the area when the residents were asleep.

He said the assailants raided the residence of one Usman Abdullahi Yarima and abducted his two wives and three other members of the family before moving to another house where they kidnapped two women and two other relatives.

According him, the husbands of the kidnapped women who were overpowered by the bandits scampered for safety.

The incident was confirmed by the Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, Gambo Isah.

Isah, however, said details of the attack were still sketchy.

“There was an attack. I am aware of it but I can’t give the full account because the report I have is still sketchy,” the police spokesman said.
