Bandits have again invaded Zurmi town, the headquarters of Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State and abducted a yet-to-be-ascertained number of residents.

An indigene of the town, Musa Isah, while speaking to The Star on phone, disclosed that the bandits attacked the area at about 5 p.m., shooting sporadically.

According to him, scores of residents ran into bush while others locked their houses to avoid being killed or kidnapped by the bandits who were carrying dangerous weapons.

He said the military personnel deployed to the town to save the situation were grossly inadequate, stressing that “the bandits were still shooting and moving from one area of the town to the other”.

Isah added: “We are in a pathetic situation because the personnel sent to fight the bandits were not enough for confrontation with the terrorists.

“The bandits are in large number, that is why they are not afraid of the military personnel who here to foil the attack.”

Isah disclosed that women and children were running helter skelter looking for safety during the attack.

“We are calling on the security agencies to as a matter of urgency do something in time before the worst happen in Zurmi town and its environs,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yazid Abubakar, could not be reached on the incident as of press time.
