Bandits kill 2 immigration officers in Kebbi

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed two officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Isa Nafi’u and Garba Haruna Fana, in Kebbi State.

It was gathered that the NIS officers were killed after the bandits launched an attack on the officers on duty at Garin Garba entry point, about 12 kilometres away from Kangiwa, the headquarters of Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

It was learnt that the third officer escaped unhurt.

Commiserating with the NIS, Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive their shortcomings and grant them Jannatul Firdaus.

The governor, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, on Wednesday, January 17, urged the families of the deceased and the NIS to take heart and accept the will of God in good faith.

The governor’s aide said Idris personally attended the funeral prayer for the NIS officers held in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, and expressed dismay over the demise of the officers.

He said the sacrifice they made to the nation would never be forgotten as their lives were cut short during service.

Governor Idris enjoined other immigration officers not to be deterred by the act of who he described as notorious and bad elements in society, urging them to continue with their legitimate and lawful duty as scheduled.

Idris assured that the state government would continue to do everything possible to ensure protection of lives and property of people across the state.

He, therefore, appealed for cooperation and support to all policies and programmes of the present administration to enable it succeed.
